My focus is helping organizations align people with business values and strategies for optimal effectiveness – and that means understanding what’s supporting or impeding optimal performance at the individual, team, and organizational level. But it also means recognizing the humanness of the workplace.
I hold a BSc Psychology, an MSc in Organizational Psychology, and a Postgraduate Diploma in HR Management & Labour Relations providing me with a solid understanding of the science and theory of people at work. However, in the last 25 years I’ve learned just as much on-the-job, working with all sorts of wonderful people, in all sorts of interesting workplaces, facilitating organizational change both as a leader and consultant.
I’m passionate about aligning our client’s people practices with their organizational culture and strategic business plans. By linking the people side of business with strategy, we help leaders to increase individual, team and organizational performance.
As a consultant I draw from 30+ years of strategic HR and organizational development experience working in 5 different continents across a diverse range of workplaces. I received my doctorate in Education from Boston University, focusing on behavioural and humanistic development. Since then I’ve written two books: “The Talent Edge: A Behavioural Approach to Hiring, Developing and Keeping Top Performers” and “Inside the Box: Leading with Corporate Values to Drive Sustained Business Success”. In addition to consulting, I enjoy teaching at the York U. Schulich School of Business SEEC and Durham College.
My passion is helping organizations realize their development and transformation goals by aligning strategy with conscious, purposeful change leadership. I have over 15 years experience supporting clients across all sectors with system-level process design, business transformation and enterprise-level project management.
With a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Psychology, a Masters in Project Management, and certifications in Public Relations and PROSCI Organizational Change Management, my education and training tell a clear story of my fascination with the people side of change.
I’m a firm believer in the benefits of using a coaching approach to leadership and am passionate about sharing my knowledge and experience working as a confidante, coach, and mentor to individuals, groups and teams.
My diverse business experience is complimented with a Graduate Certificate in Executive Coaching from Royal Roads University and the Master Certified Coach designation from the International Coach Federation. In 2012, I was recognized with Leadership Victoria’s Leadership Excellence through Coaching and Mentoring Award. and in 2016, was recognized for the ICF PRISM award for designing and delivering the C.O.A.C.H. skills training program.
As a business leader, I’ve excelled in the HR profession for over 30 years, helping to share better futures for individuals and organizations alike.
I hold a Master’s degree in public administration and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology. I return that learning in kind as a sessional instructor at the University of Victoria in both Business and Public Administration. I’ve been a certified emotional intelligence assessor since 2002 and was recently honoured as a Fellow Chartered Human Resources Professional.
I care about business and I care about people - which is central to helping our clients to build successful organizations. After 20 years of leading, complex, unionized organizations including 5 years as Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the City of Winnipeg and 4 years as City Manager of Victoria, I bring our clients strong financial acumen and excellent communication and people skills. While I was trained as an accountant and honoured to hold the FCPA, FCGA designation, my consulting practice draws more heavily from my people leadership experience and experience of leading large-scale change. Solving complex problems such Winnipeg’s arson issue, sewage treatment plant spill, sale of Winnipeg Hydro, emergency 911 deaths, for example, has equipped me to help our clients think strategically, while finding practical solutions to very real problems.
